Being a Boarding Kennel and Cattery Assistant with Aspergers Syndrome

Maisy, who has Aspergers Syndrome, worked at a boarding kennel and cattery where she took the responsibility of caring for many different animals.

The employment/study you proved possible…:
I worked at a boarding kennels and cattery, that was also attached to a farm. It included animals such as a giant snail, two llamas, quail, chickens, ducks, pigs, sheep and horses.

Your disability in your own words…: I have Aspergers Syndrome

What did you need to do in order to make this employment/study possible alongside your disability? What obstacles did you have to negotiate and how?:

There was no set structure to the day, each day was different depending on which animals were in. This lack of routine could be a challenge for me but it was easy to overcome because the board in the office said the jobs that needed doing for the day. I followed the board.

What advice would you give to someone just starting this journey?:

Just try it: you might like it!
